What Massage is for ME?

What type of massage do I want?

There are many types of massages. Together, you and your massage therapist will determine which one would be best for you. Whether you are stressed, experiencing pain, have knots in your shoulders, or would just prefer to relax, there’s a massage for YOU! During our consultation we will customize your experience to your needs. All types of massages are helpful even pampering ones, but a little education can go a long way when preparing for your massage.

What types of massages are there?

No matter what your ailment is, there’s a massage for it.

  • Swedish Massage is a relaxing massage consisting of long flowing strokes designed to sedate the muscles and bring circulation to the area worked.  This in turn promotes a faster healing process.
  • Deep Tissue Massage is using the same strokes as Swedish but utilizing more pressure and different tools, such as soft fist, forearm, and elbows. Deep Tissue loosens up tense muscles, breaks up adhesions, and has a deep long lasting effect.
  • Cranial Sacral Therapy is the use of multiple holds to clear cerebral spinal fluid dysfunction.  This is great for deep relaxation and issues such as frequent headaches or constant stress.
  • Structural Integration is the process of aligning the soft tissue adhering to fascia by using various deep strokes and corrective exercises which are designed to lengthen the connective tissue and put your body into proper alignment.
  • Reflexology is a technique used predominantly on the feet and hands. It is based off of the principle that there are many different points in the hands and feet that can affect other areas of the body. This is great for relaxation and for people who have reasons for not wanting to be touched in a certain area.

How do I decide what massage is best for me?

Luckily for you that’s not entirely your responsibility. Just simply tell your massage therapist the problems you are experiencing, and they will recommend a combination of massage types that work best for you based on your likes, dislikes, what experiences you have had in the past, how much pressure you like, any recent or chronic issues, etc. It’s all about customizing your experience and it is our privilege to guide you in the right direction.

Please keep in mind that this is a basic list of the various types of massage available. To find receive additional information about these services or any of the other specialty massages offered at FX please call (410) 771-1500 or email us at

Kick the Butt!

By bschoon  //  Acupuncture  //

Acupuncture is quickly becoming one of the most effective natural ways to stop smoking.  The focus of treatment is to help eleminate nicotine cravings, as well as help the body detoxify from years of inhaling toxins.

Acupuncture also helps the recipient deal with the stress, anxiety and any other uncomfortable emotions that my come up during the cessation process. The treatment helps to balance the energy within the body to optimize one’s health.

The treatment is 2x/week for the first month and “as needed” for support after that.

While acupuncture is not a magic cure, it is effective in making it easier to kick the habit and to remain smoke-free for good!

Cosmetic Acupuncture

By bschoon  //  Acupuncture  //

FX Studio’s Beth Schoon talks about Cosmetic Acupuncture:

Hi I’m Beth Schoon. I’m the new acupuncturist at FX studios and I’m here to talk about Cosmetic Acupuncture.

Millions of dollars are spent every year on cosmetic procedures including creams and Botox and different types of surgeries.

Cosmetic Acupuncture offers a more natural approach to this, offering many healing benefits. It helps to stimulate collagen in the face. It helps to give you a more subtle relaxed look along with many health benefits.

Many of the points in the face are really good for digestion, for insomnia, for headaches so you get the health benefits along with the cosmetic benefits.

Cosmetic Acupuncture vs Botox

This offers a much more natural approach. We’re not injecting any kind of toxins, or creating any damage to the body or face with this system. As I said before, it has many other healing benefits, along with stimulating collagen and relaxing the nerves in the face.

Sessions? Results?

So a typical session lasts about an hour and a half. To expect to see good results you need 10-20 sessions depending on the age. The results can last up to 3-5 years.

How long has Cosmetic Acupuncture been around?

More than 3,00 years and it’s just now becoming very popular in this country. Especially with many stars in Hollywood.

Hollywood stars?!? Such as…

Sandra Bullock, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Is Cosmetic Acupuncture painful?

Normally no because the needles, as you can see on Crystal’s face are micro-thin. Sometimes when they go in, if it’s a painful point you’ll feel a little bit of pain on insertion but once they’re in you don’t feel anything.

Why needles in the feet?

When we do Cosmetic Acupuncture I’m putting so many needles in her face as you can see, that all the energy is being drawn up into the head so I put them in the feet to ground her. It just to make it a more relaxing treatment.

Regular vs Cosmetic Acupuncture

With regular Acupuncture you’re coming in for pain or some sort of health problem. We wouldn’t do Cosmetic Acupuncture on anyone with any health problems. This is strictly a cosmetic treatment. We’re focusing on relaxing the nerves in the face and building collagen as opposed specific health issues.

Can anyone do Cosmetic Acupuncture?

No this is definitely special training that I’ve done. I’ve studied with women in China and then a number of other teachers here.

What is Reiki?

By admin  //  Healing  //

Reiki-JapaneseThe word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “Universal” and Ki which is “Life force energy”. The purpose of receiving Reiki is to balance our energy or Ki (also known as ʻchiʼ or ʻqiʼ).

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of holistic healing and self-improvement that
everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and
always fosters beneficial effects. It also works in conjunction with medical or therapeutic
techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

What is a Reiki session like?

The experience of a session is different for every person. Typically the recipient feels a wonderful glowing radiance which flows through and around them. Sometimes the person may feel more of a tingling sensation in the area being treated. A state of deep relaxation, combined with a general feeling of well-being, is usually the most noticeable immediate effect of the treatment, although emotional releases can also occur.

Reiki treats many levels of a person. Body, emotions, mind and spirit are touched, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being.

reiki-touch-healing-energyDuring a Reiki treatment, the recipient is asked to lie down on the massage table and relax. Loose, comfortable clothing is worn during the treatment so the energy can penetrate and permeate through the targeted areas. The client also has the option of covering up with a blanket if they wish.

The treatment begins with the practitioner placing their hands on the recipient in various positions. Practitioners, however, may use a non-touching technique where the hands are held away from the recipient’s body for some or all of the positions. The practitionerʼs hands are generally kept still for 5 minutes before moving to the next position. The technique, however, will vary depending on the particular needs of the client. Overall, the hand positions give a general coverage of the head, the front and back of the torso, the knees and the feet.

What problems can Reiki help?

Reiki is a practice which stimulates the natural healing process. Instantaneous “cures” of specific health problems are not usually observed. Multiple sessions are recommended if a chronic condition is being addressed. Reiki is commonly used to treat (note that this list is not all inclusive):

reiki-natural-healing• Acute Pain
• Chronic Conditions (Arthritis, Diabetes, etc.)
• Accelerated Healing of Injuries/Surgery
• Side Effects of Other Treatments Such as Chemotherapy
• Anxiety
• Lack of Energy
• Emotional Trauma

Regular weekly/monthly treatments are encouraged to achieve oneʼs optimal level of
well being.
