You Want Me to WAX What?!?

Beach season is here, and what better way to get ready for vacation than getting rid of all those unwanted hairs with waxing?! So many people hear the word waxing and immediately wince at the thought, but I can assure you that once you try it, you will be a believer and wonʼt want to remove hair any other way.

How is waxing done? Well, here at FX, you will be escorted by our Guest Relations Specialists to our tranquility room, to wait. Here you will have a few minutes to relax, in a serene setting, while you wait for your Service Provider to come and greet you. Once greeted, you will go into a private room with your Esthetician to begin your service. Warm wax will be applied to the selected area, it will then adhere to the hair and will be removed from the root. With waxing the entire hair is removed from the follicle, leaving you hair free for 3-6 weeks!

Eyebrow WaxingWhy wax?
Waxing is convenient, cost effective, long lasting and quick! Shaving cuts the hair in the middle of the hair shaft, which causes stubble when it grows back. With waxing, not only do you have silky smooth skin right afterwards, but it lasts longer, and with several sessions, the hair actually grows back softer and finer, and eventually can cease to grow back at all. Waxing also doubles as an exfoliation. When the wax is removed it gets rid of the top layer of dead skin cells. With waxing there are no harsh chemicals, which can be irritating to the skin, or unpleasant smells such as in depilatory creams, and no chance of nicking yourself with the razor.

Does it Hurt?
You can compare waxing to pulling off a band aid. It all depends on ones individual pain tolerance. Most people will experience a slight pinching or stinging sensation right after the strip is pulled, but I assure you itʼs nothing you canʼt handle. After the waxing is complete, a cool towel and a soothing chamomile and aloe vera lotion will be applied to calm any irritation. If you are nervous about the pain, you can take an ibuprofen or aspirin about 30 minutes prior to waxing to curb the sting.

Waxed LegsDoʼs and Donʼt:

  • Do make sure hair is 1/4” long, just long enough for the wax to grab ahold of
  • Do avoid direct sunlight 24 hours before and 48 hours after waxing
  • Do avoid hot baths or showers for 24-48 hours after waxing
  • Donʼt wear tight clothing directly after waxing
  • Donʼt wax if you are using Retin-A, differin, or Isoretinoin as these medications make the skin more prone to tearing.

Now that you know a little more about waxing, put that doubt aside and try it out! Understanding the process to become more comfortable is half the battle. The other half is picking up that phone, giving us a call, setting up your appointment and enjoying your freshly smooth skin!
